If you are moving to the city of Dallas, you might want to know what makes this city, otherwise known as “The Big D” so great. The answer is simple – Dallas attractions, arts and entertainment and a variety of other features of this historic city make it a wonderful place to lay down some roots. Here are (in our opinion) ten reasons why you should be happy that you are moving to Dallas.
1. Weather – Sure, it’s hot in the summer with temps often soaring above 100 in July and August. But for winters, you can’t beat an average high temperature in the 60’s. While the average lows during the winter months have been known to get quite cold, this is a minor inconvenience to put up with considering the spring and fall average temps come in around 80 degrees. This type of climate makes Dallas ideal for outdoorsy types who can’t stand to spend a cold winter stuck inside.
2. Culture – When checking out Dallas attractions, you can’t miss the arts scene. The Dallas Museum of Art is known world-wide for its big-name exhibits which draw crowds year-round. From works by the French Impressionists to modern painters to ancient sculptures from the Pacific Islands, the art at this museum is a must-see. Dallas arts and entertainment also features renowned theaters producing everything from shows made famous on Broadway to small independent plays.
3. Nightlife – If an active entertainment scene is what you are after in the city of Dallas, you won’t be disappointed. For a sophisticated club experience try Minc Lounge on Exposition Avenue. The urbane atmosphere of this nightclub is notable, and with several deejays mixing tunes, you can indulge the dancer in you all night long. For a bar with a traditional feel check out the Library Bar in the Melrose Hotel. This wood-paneled, bookcase-lined spot boasts mellow music by a house pianist, delicious hors d’oeuvres and, of course, expertly mixed drinks.
4. Low cost of living – If you are looking to live frugally, the city of Dallas is a great place to do it. Known for its low housing costs and lower cost of living in general, a move to Dallas may mean extra money in your wallet.
5. Sports – From professional sports teams (think Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks) to amateur recreational sports such as volleyball and soccer, Dallas is a mecca for all things sports. Whether you are a participant or just a spectator, there’s sport for you in Dallas year round.
6. Green space – The Dallas Park and Recreation Department proudly maintains over 21,000 acres of parkland that include 17 lakes. Included in this recreational area are 61.60 miles of jogging and bike trails, as well as 6 golf courses, 22 community swimming pools, 31 baseball diamonds and 258 tennis courts, to name a few.
7. Dallas Jobs – Dallas is a burgeoning presence in the job market and is consistently ranked among the top cities for corporate relocation. Besides a lower cost of living, the city of Dallas is a center of industry, especially in information technology and health care.
8. Shopping – If shopping is your favorite pastime, you’ll find that Dallas has fantastic malls, stand alone stores and retail outlets within the city and in all the major suburbs. From the flagship store of Neiman Marcus to America’s oldest shopping center Highland Park Village, Dallas will delight any seasoned shopper.
9. Events – For year round fun events that encompass all that arts and entertainment have to offer, Dallas is definitely the place to be. From the Taste of Dallas celebration each July to the State Fair in September, Texans like to celebrate and Dallas is the capital of festivals in the Lone Star State. Check out the City of Dallas Calendar of Events for more info on special events and festivals.
10. Downtown – The city of Dallas is extremely proud of its re-energized downtown area which features many fine restaurants, clubs, shopping outlets and entertainment venues. In addition to thousands of first class hotels, the downtown area is the home to the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas World Aquarium, the Dallas Farmer’s Market, the Dallas Museum of Art and the stunning Pioneer Plaza, where a larger-than-life sized depiction of a cattle drive stands cast in bronze.
Of course, there a million other reasons to relocate to the Big D; these ten are only the beginning. Once you move to the city of Dallas, you won’t regret it for a minute, so put on your boots and your ten-gallon hat and start exploring your new home!

Minc lounge is closed BTW but there are plenty of other ubercool places like Lee Harvey’s in South Dallas or St. Anne’s down by the AA arena.
